VR Mnemonic System

vruxuiBy Jackson Barnes

Explored VR-based learning for Picmonic with a reusable spatial UI system informed by visual mnemonics and the method of loci.

I worked with a team to explore how Picmonic's medical-education lessons could be experienced in virtual reality. My contribution was a reusable spatial UI system built with Unity's UI tools, OVR, and nested prefab variants.

Learning Through Spatial Context

Picmonic uses visual mnemonics to turn complex educational material into memorable illustrations. The VR project explored adding a spatial layer through the method of loci: placing information in an environment so learners could associate it with a location and recall it later.

The intent was to offer another way to navigate and study the existing lessons. The interface was tested with longtime Picmonic users, and the product served as a demonstration of how mnemonic learning might work as VR became more accessible.

Client

Picmonic is an online medical-education platform serving thousands of learners through visual mnemonic lessons.
