Mixed Reality Flight Training Prototype using HL1

hololensBy Jackson Barnes

An experimental mixed reality prototype using Microsoft HoloLens that allows flight students to learn aircraft aerodynamics through an immersive experience in a Cessna 172 cockpit.

The mixed reality flight training prototype project was an experiment to understand what the future of educational experiences might look like with advanced mixed reality technology. Utilizing the Microsoft's Hololens I was able to create a situated educational experience in which the student sat inside of a Cessna 172 cockpit as they watched a instructional video about the aero dynamics of an aircraft. The student was also able to watch the aircraft maneuver in 3D space from a birds eye perspective as the video played.
